In Texas, 1 in 7 Texans are currently facing food insecurity. That accounts for 1.4 million Texas households and over 4 million individuals. We are proud to announce a multi-university student-led initiative named “Texas Size Christmas” to fight growing food insecurity in Texas. The beginning of the holiday season is a special and meaningful time of year for many families. This year, unlike many before, we have been struck with COVID-19, which has caused a stark rise in food insecurity. Launched by The University of Houston student organization, #ForTheStudents, A Texas-Sized Christmas is a challenge amongst eight universities competing to raise monetary and tangible donations to assist families throughout the state facing job loss and food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
