Graduation Rates

It is without question that one of the main problems at UH  is that many of our students lack the support they need to truly embrace the University as a home. Getting students more involved on campus.
Getting involved means more than “movie night” or free food. It’s making sure that our students are more acquainted and acclimated to their new “home.” We have a lot of first-generation, commuter students. When the going gets rough, if the students don’t have a friend group, their family will more often than not encourage them to drop out and go to work. Our Cub2Coog program ensures that every kid has a friend group the moment they enroll in our university by placing first semester students in a campus group with a teaching faculty advisor, a student advisor, and a variety of students within their major. Cub2Coog makes sure that no one goes through the early phases of college alone; leading to a higher sense of camaraderie within the student body.

Sexual Assault

People are being sexually assaulted on our campus at a disgusting rate. With the current standing of how sexual assaults are handled on campus, women are not reporting their transgressors. A UH student recently came forward with her story dealing with her rape with university officials. As stated, the woman was asked to pay $1,000 for a rape kit and was not fully supported by the University. It is our goal to make sure that rape kits are FREE on campus and available to all students. We also want to make sure there is a sexual assault resource center that makes it easier for victims to come forward with their stories and get the proper help they need to ensure that their rapists are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Campus Safety

We pay some of the highest parking prices in the land, yet we have some of the highest crime rates in our parking structures. Students do not feel safe walking their cars at night; this is a problem that needs to be addressed. UHPD feels that we have one of the safest campuses out there due to the numbers published every year; however, the school fails to recognize the fact that not all crimes are being reported. We need to devote an initiative similar to what was passed at USC to ensure the campus is broken into zones and is well staffed with police/security protection
